Introducing Lion of Judah
Lion of Judah, Season One, one of the year's most exciting projects (in both the comics and the music industries), has its inaugural launch at WonderCon. Produced by global icon Bob Marley's family, his music library's license-holder, Primary Wave and the Creative Principals (M. Menelik Makhar, Dermot Hussey, O.D., and Robert Roach), it is a 7-issue, 50-pages per book endeavor. The narrative chronicles the African Diaspora's last 150 years-the Solomonic Dynasty, H.I.M. Haile Selassie I's reign, the African struggle for independence, the Cold War and its worldwide impact. Jumping across eras, principals, and locations, this intersectional story weaves together historical, musical, and political contributions of Kwame Nkrumah, Steve Biko, Bob Marley, The Wailers, and many others. The narrative's musical contributions range from reggae to ska to dub to dancehall. Creators involved in Lion of Judah's formation and those who participated in crafting this three-sided deal—Robert Roach (LLC partner/penciller), Larry Welch (inker), Hannibal Tabu (comic script adapter), Paul Husband (attorney), and M. Menelik Makhar (LLC partner/creator/screenplay writer)—will discuss the project's details.M.D. Marie (Top Cow writer) will moderate.

Hip-Hop and Comics: Cultures Combining
Comics and hip-hop are both hybrid forms, forging new ideas by combining existing elements in new and creative ways, reflecting and shaping popular culture through artistic expression. Rappers and graffiti artists utilize four-color visuals and adopt heroic alter-egos; MCs and producers create universes with words and sound; comic creators incorporate hip-hop's music, dance, and fashion into the fabric of their work. Here, Patrick A. Reed (Depth of Field) brings together an all-star group of graphic storytellers and musical luminaries to dig deep into the common history and shared inspirations of these two creative cultures.
